Reports - Upcoming Mississippi Legislative Priorities for 2010

Not only is it important for Real Estate agents to keep up with upcoming legislative issues, but also for all homeowners and future buyers to do the same.  Here are a few MAR Legislative Priorities that Oxford, MS property owners should keep an eye on for 2010:

Monetizing the first time homebuyer credit.
Pushing legislation to make the money from the extended and expanded tax credit available at the closing of the home.
It would be repaid after the buyer files his/her taxes.

Eminent Domain:
MAR will oppose any eminent domain legislation that may inhibit economic growth in the state of Mississippi.  Eminent domain is the state's right to seize personal property or seize a citizen's rights in property with due monetary compensation, but without the owner's consent.

Tax incentives for Goin' Green
:
MAR supports establishing incentives for building homes or condos that are considered energy efficient and/or environmentally friendly.  The government is trying to make it easier for us to go green; get money now, save money in the long run, and help our environment.

Push for Financial Literacy:

Educating our youth in the importance of budgeting, saving, spending, and credit maintenance is a top priority for the MAR.  We at BC Real Estate in Oxford, MS also believe in power through knowledge, this is why we encourage you to contact us regarding any questions about Real Estate.

Oversight of Appraisal Management Companies in Mississippi:
Legislation will be supported to give the Appraisal Board oversight over Appraisal Management companies practicing in the state.
